Legitimate Work From Home Jobs

February 28, 2009 by

Since I know I’m not the only person out there looking for a job, I thought now was a perfect time for this kind of post. I’m going to leave it stuck to the top of the blog for a while so that it is easy to access. The most important thing to remember when looking for a job that you can do at home, is that there should NEVER be a fee for the job. There are a few exceptions to this rule, but for the most part if they ask you to pay for it it isn’t legitimate. The exceptions to this rule are home party type businesses. Most of them do require an upfront cost. A few of the places listed below may charge you for the background check, but they are proven to be legitimate companies. Just remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Ch-ch-ch-changes

March 7, 2009 by

OK that was cheesy sorry. Anyway, some changes are on the horizon. I have a little too much free time right now, so I’m going to implement some changes to the blog. The free version of WordPress has served me very well, but there are some fun things I want to do and can’t on this version. So I have found a wallet friendly host (with Renee’s help) and will be making the move as soon as I figure it all out. So please stick with me as I get all of this going. Hopefully I won’t screw anything up too badly in the process.

Deals on Downtown Meals

March 7, 2009 by

Now, my idea of a wallet friendly meal can be found here. But, since times are tough and businesses are closing left and right, I feel that if you’re going to spend money to eat out, it’s a great idea to support the local restaurants. So March 10th through the 12th visit some of these fine dining establishments and sample some of their wallet friendly fare. Let’s keep our local friends in business.

Deal on Nintendo DS

March 6, 2009 by

OK this is a really rare deal so if you want one of these I would order it now! There’s been som speculation as to whether or not the price of the Nintendo DS Lite will come down now that a new model is being released. From what I’m reading it doesn’t sound like it will come down very much from it’s normal price of $129 because the new version will be about $169. Dell Home has the Colbalt/Black and Crimson/Black on sale for $104 with code. If you use a Dell Preferred Account you will save an additional 3%. With tax it is about $109 shipped.

Life without TV (sort of)

March 4, 2009 by

I’ve toyed with the idea of cutting my cable completely off or almost off for a long time. Losing my job made it instantly more appealing. So, as of yesterday I have about ten channels. I prepared my children and they took it pretty well. My younger son didn’t quite understand what I meant, but he got it pretty quick. Interestingly enough, I’m taking it a lot harder than they are. I reminded them that they could watch some of their favorite shows on the internet and that they would still have PBS which is their favorite anyway. They haven’t asked to watch anything on the computer.

I ended up watching two episodes of House that I’d missed because I couldn’t deal with daytime talk shows and wasn’t motivated to do any house work. Tonight they didn’t even ask to turn on the TV and instead sat right down with a book. They do that a lot anyway, but the TV was always on for noise.

So, as most people who make this choice find, it’s not so bad. I can’t promise you that once my financial situation improves I won’t turn it back on. I probably will. I really miss Bravo and their shows aren’t always on the web.

Blue Ridge Community College

March 4, 2009 by

OK aside from being a great school at a great bargain, BRCC has an interesting event coming up. On Wednesday, May 6th they are having a Disney Leadership Seminar. It’s called The Disney Keys to Excellence. While it sounds really interesting at $399 I won’t be able to make it! However, if you do attend you have the chance to win free registration at the Disney Institute in Orlando!

On the radio – Updated!

March 2, 2009 by

I month or so ago I did an interview with WVTF.  Because I’m slow at checking my e-mail I may have missed it. I was told it would air at either 4:30 or 5:45, so fingers crossed it’s on at 5:45. I will post a link if and when one becomes available.

Update: Due to all of the snow cancellations, the piece will most likely air tomorrow at either 4:30 or 5:45. If the weather is still an issue, it may be Thursday! I’ll update if I know more!

Updated #2 – I was on today at 5:45. Go here to listen to the spot. Don’t laugh, I know I sound like a local!
